Default Engine block plugs - help with identifying

Need a hand identifying what these two plugs are. Engine is a '98 Impreza EJ20 (N/A).

The first:

The round one with the hex centre. Located here, above the left lead plug:

Second one:

Located under the two throttle cables here:

Reason being, I snapped my centre dash cover lid & decided rather than taking the easy option of replacing it, I'd do a triple gauge install to actually try and work on something vaguely mechanical/electrical... was going to use a t-piece where the factory sender is but there isn't enough room so need another spot.

Sandwich plate isn't an option either. Don't really like the idea of a potential oil leak onto the exhaust...

I think they are there in case of your coolant freezing and allowing the plugs to relieve pressure as so the block doesn't crack if the engine freezes.

Back of the engine under the throttle body on the drivers side. That plug is for the oil gallery. The other one is a knock sensor. Do not remove the knock sensor. A good quality sandwich plate shouldn't leak

Haha I definitely won't be removing that one, was more just curious to see what it was. Cheers for the help!

I thought it was a factory oil sensor, comes up with a red light if it detects a problem, 99% sure I've seen several guides explaining how it can be used for fitting an after market oil pressure sensor and you just tuck the factory sensor to one side.

^ Read that entire link.

I'm following that guide next week when I fit my water temp/oil pressure and boost gauge in my triple gauge holder.

the one at the front to the left of the crank angle sensor is your oil pressure switch, you can t peice into that if you want but its easier to just undo the plug at the back of the block
ALPHA likes this.

I think you mean core plugs.core plugs are in the block to stop it from cracking if the coolant freezes.tempreture here doesn't reach -20-30 degrees here so a frozen block should be the least of your worries
