MY06 Turbo change

Can anyone help me by tellnig me if an My06 Sti Turbo will bolt straight up to a MY06 WRX?

TROLLEY 02-10-2012 07:03 PM

Cool introduction!

huggy_b 02-10-2012 07:19 PM

VF39 will fit, intercooler will need to be upgraded. Not 100% sure on ancillaries like injectors or fuel pump.

Sorry,i know it's not a cool intro but i needed an answer,i'm the 3rd owner of my MY06 Wrx and i still can't get many answers to what has been don to it before i got it,having never owned one before i have loads of questions. It has a high flow cat an a 3"exhaust,not sure what else has been done or how it should go but it seems to be able to spin all 4 wheels in 3rd without much effort.

Has it been tuned?

Hi,i know very little about the car, trying to find out more,i know it's due to have the plugs changed but as for the ecu not sure,i'm not looking forward to changing the plugs .....

98kellrs 02-10-2012 10:58 PM

The cat's usually on the Mid & down pipes I thought, so if they've replaced the cat its likely they've put a full TBE on? Which would mean it's been tuned already?

And if you're spinning all 4 wheels in third, I very much doubt you've got the stock turbo...

First thing to do ASAP is find out if the ecu is tuned for the exhaust, the 06 wrx have problems with untuned engines that have exhaust and/or intakes on them, if driven for too long or driven hard untuned the engine can melt

Hi,after some phone calles and sreaching yes it has been tuned but no one can tell me whats actually been done as they all keep no records,so still searching for info, pulling up the carpet and foot plate and checking to see what ecu is there and if anyone has written anything on the outside......the search goes on.....

fsk 07-10-2012 08:12 AM

Ring allstar garage, maximum motor sport and Race Torque.. its very likely your car has been tuned by one of them

Sonic 10-12-2012 12:06 AM

using the search button!lol

Can anyone confirm if a tdo5h off an ej20 will bolt up to an ej25?

They go OK, but they only have a 16G sized rear housing I think. A 18G is where the party starts ;)
I had a TD05 18G on my old WRX (2004 EJ20), made just over 280WHP @ 19PSI

EDIT: If you have a 2.5L motor the 16G would be a waste.

TROLLEY 10-12-2012 12:25 AM

Pointless. I thought cash wasn't an issue?

If it isn't a factor then Twin-Scroll 2.5L would be leathal!

2.5L + Twin Scroll + TD06 XXG = Profit

Sonic 10-12-2012 08:09 AM

At the moment im just trying to test different set ups to see what i like from the info i found the td05h has a flow rate of 505 compared to my tdo4 at 360. im looking for a car with good street drivablity not just large numbers, so not wanting to go to big to keep lag down

Yes it will bolt up no problems. As said 18G housing would be a good option.

Cool thanks mate, yeah i was thinking the 18g earlier theres probably a good chance a 16g wont be enough but im gunna give it a go if i dont like it then ill go a step up to 18.

Sonic 10-12-2012 12:11 PM

Just wondering if anyone can confirm if the TD05h turbo is a 16g, the part number is 14412AA091 49178-06300 TD05H

jasonmurray 10-12-2012 07:14 PM

That is what I thought, when I googled it tho the same number gave me td05 14g aswell but just read a thread saying the TD05H for the subarus are all 16g.

It will make big power and be responsive

Sonic 10-12-2012 11:34 PM

I just looked at the dyno I'm not sure I'm happy to wait until 5000 rpm for my car to wake up

Sonic 10-12-2012 11:35 PM

Then change gear at 6000

Sonic 10-12-2012 11:36 PM

Then blow my gear box

Dan [GTI] 10-12-2012 11:53 PM

Seriously, TD05 18G or 20G is going to be what you are after.

My 2.0L WRX with an 18G (and FMIC) hit hard in the lower RPM to on a 2.5 it will work well.

astralex 10-12-2012 11:54 PM

In your build thread you mentioned money was no object, so put a six speed behind it and you won't have that problem. Besides, there have been people on here running somewhat similar peak values without killing a 5 speed. I could be wrong but I think Rossco was after his build. Drive it sensibly and all is well. I'm still running a 5 speed without any dramas. What Gav has up for sale is a damn good turbo and if I hadn't spent my money on going away I'd snap it up.

Sonic 11-12-2012 12:18 AM

The problem is finding a set up to suit my driving style and ability, I actually quite like the TD04 as a daily driver and I'm not one to do big top speeds, I hardly go over 100 km I just like the feeling of poping in and out of corners without breaking the speed limit. just after that bit more than the td04 can offer so the 16g seemed like the better option for keeping the lag down and the lower torque high with a bit better mid range. Plus with a 16 I don't need to change my injectors or the intercooler i can see the 16 making the car what I want

Starting your question off with this mission statement would have saved you alot of time.

I also love the punch out of corners... but I love some good old-fashioned speeed!

Kato 11-12-2012 09:39 AM

This TD05 you want...

Is it off a 94-96 WRX? They came factory with the TD05. I would avoid putting an old turbo like that onto a MY06.

yeah thats correct, i seen it on gumtree 180 bucks thought i put it on if i liked it id buy a new one, or if it wasnt enough id know to buy the 18g

Kato 11-12-2012 10:07 AM

Putting a potentially 18 year old turbo on a car is just asking for trouble.

If it was going on a GC8, sure ok. But given you will be up for a retune, just to find out if it works - I'd put on a eBay TD05 first.

Rather than go 'oh that's cheap I'll give it a go'. Think it out and do it correctly once.

I cant disagree with that, suppose ill just grab a blouch 16g 10 cm housing.
and if it doesnt drive how i thought im sure one of the 2l guys will be happy to take it off my hands for good price :-)

Kato 11-12-2012 11:10 AM

Good thing I have a 2L :p
