Default 2002 Sti up pipe question

Hey guys,

i have had a search but can't find the answer for my question, so if you know a link please post it up.

Im going to install a tbe 3 inch stainless steel system tomorrow morning and was wondering if the up pipe needs to be replaced because of the pre-cat like on the standard wrx?

Just wanted to asked to be sure i wasn't going through the annoying task for no reason.

Cheers

Matt

It does not need to be changed unless faulty.

Faulty meaning?

I don't understand why they supply them in the kit if they are not needed?

Cheers

Huh? None of the aftermarket exhaust you're going to install is "needed"...
Why would they not supply an up-pipe in the kit?

Ok mate, relax.

I've used the search bar and looked for an answer and couldnt find one.
I understand that none of the exhaust system in installing is "needed" as you so kindly pointed out. However, I AM installing this system and i AM wondering why they DID include the up pipe in the exaust kit.
If you are going to reply like that why bother?

Cheers

I'm perfectly calm mate.

They included the up-pipe so you can install it if you so please.

Fuck your relax.

If you can replace the up-pipe it would be worth it. Usually the after market up pipes are bigger and can let the turbo spool around 500rpm earlier. You might need a tune to get that happening though. The up pipe can be a bit of a bitch to replace so just depends on what tools you got available and if you have experience with that kind of thing. From memory you may have to jack the motor up a bit to change it. If you can't change it everything should be fine though

Although the aftermarket up-pipes are bigger diameter most of them still have a reduction in pipe diameter immediately pre-turbo so won't see much gain over the stock STI up-pipe.
