2002 WRX 100k Maintenance?
I'm thinking of buying a 2002 WRX that has 91k on it but I want to know what the 100k maintenance is and how much it would cost. I've seen some posts saying that you don't need to do anything but just the basics like oil until 125k. But I've also seen others saying you need a lot done at 100k. I'm just curious on what would be a good idea to do at 100k.

Timing belt for one which equals $$$$
When you go look at the car grab the log book and it tells you what needs doing at 100k service.

When looking at 02 and 03 sti's i priced up about 5-6 places including the reputable workshops mentioned on here (MMS, RMS, EVO R, Blue Star, Stechnic)
The price really depends on exactly what you want to get done. The log book would suggest a standard service (oil flush, replacement, oil filter) and driveline oils and timing belt (both of which should be done) if your getting that don't expect much change from $1500. Most prices i got quoted were around the $1200 mark, and can start adding on more $$$ if the water pump is shot to shit, as its worth replacing whilst doing the timing belt. I'd work out which shop you'd want to take the car to first, and maybe discuss with them options of staggaring your services. Aka get the drivelines oils done at 100k and maybe do the belt and water pump (if needed) at 120k. A lot of people get services done earlier or later than recommended. I think you'll find most places are pretty flexible and understanding if you happen to be short on cash but if you cant afford to run and service the car, i wouldn't be looking at buying it. My personal oppinion would be to get a full service done at 100k as its a new car. That way you know 100% exactly what has been done and when it was done.

I *think* 100k services may be around the 1000-1200 dollar mark.

Was going to say not all have been swapped out, bought my gc8 about, 4 years ago, only had 87,000km on it, now has 130,000 and i know for a fact the cluster hasnt been changed. Then a guy from work has swapped his 4 times.

First things you should do:
This is the minimum on a car with unknown service history, and should be done as soon as you get your car. As to the timing belt, you'd be safe (IMHO) to wait till 125,000 or more even. You can tackle the timing belt yourself. There are lots of DIY guides online, some good and some really good. There are a few on the American forums which show step by step guides with pics too. There are also different tips which are really helpful. You can get a kit from subaru for about 600 - just make sure that the kit comes with the tensioner and all pullies. Whilst you are there in the engine bay, you may as well change the water pump (not critical, but easy since your already working on that area of the engine. |
