Default best bang for your buck

hey, i'm just after the best power mods for my 06 cs9 wrx, dont wanna go crazy with mods, i'm currently running a 3" turbo back exhaust PW TMIC and a K&N panel filter and it has been re-flashed with an ezy-flash tune, i'm just looking for the next way to go bigger and better. looking at the 220-250 kw mark less lag the better.

Go cheap chasing 250kw on that block and you will get a bang, but not one your after.
The next step would be vf34 , proven and kind of
cheap

I think 250kw is a little optimistic. Well not optimistic, but in general you have 3 factors to consider. Cost, Power, reliability. In general you can only have 2 of them. Turbo would be the next step, but i would ask myself where you want this to end. If you then want to chase 250kw + you will certainly struggle on the block without pouring in the cash.

In general i've never totally understood why people buy wrx's and spend 1000's modding them to make them closer and closer to an Sti baseline. When they could have got an Sti to start with and have it shit over it and is a way better base level if you want to keep modding from there.

On the opposite (before people jump in) i understand people like personalising their cars. Find pleasure in experimenting and trialling things in and on their cars.

But i've heard of many many people buying wrx's modding only to sell them and buy an sti and wishing they done so from the start or earlier. You wont find too many people that bought a sti, only to sell it because they wanted to mod a wrx.

Just some food for thought...

But to answer your question, new turbo, headers, retune will net you some decent power gains. Alternatively speak to your tuner/any tuner about their recommendations.

Get some coilovers properly fitted, best mod I have done to my car, some decent rubber too when the time comes . . .

Have u got a adjustable bleed valve or EBC? Add a few extra psi of boost for some cheap extra power.

Wouldn't be chasing 250kw out of a glass 2.5L...

You will need to spend a lot of money to get to that power level safely.

As mentioned you would be better off selling and upgrading to an STI with forged internals and can handle a bit more boost safely.

If you wish to proceed, a big snail - TDO6 20G will see you at 300WHP roughly...

Also, book it in for a verso or ECUTEK tune, worth spending the money to get it done on a dyno properly

equal length headers
electronic boost control
silicone intake
new turbo of your choice
decent tune, not ezy-flash rubbish. Might see 220kw if you're really lucky. Anything beyond that with a 2.5L will see you need a big wad of cash.

All well and good if he wants to down grade to anything before 2006. None of the 2.5 sti's have forged engines.

As long as your tuner does not tune the 255 within an inch of it life and you dont limiter bash the fuck out of it you should be good to push it into the 220kw mark. to be honest i would sell up and get an sti at this point though as you will pretty much have to baby the driveline so you dont break anything their.

You have all the gear, just get a TD05-20G like a GTPS02 etc

220-240kw if tuned properly

If you listen to some of the above people this place should be

perthsellyourwrxbuysti.com

Not everone can afford an sti or this site would have maybe 50 members!

i still think 220kw+ is an optimistic goal with the aforementioned upgrades.
edit; i still think to run 220kw+ for a period of time is an optimistic goal with the aforementioned upgrades.

His car, 06 CS9 with his current upgrades, and assuming km's of anywhere around the 100 000km, have been seen selling for around the... 14-16k mark.

If you add on his expenses for a new turbo 1k (depending on new or second hand can vary) + verso tune/ecutek tune 1k + any other additions (intake, headers, boost controller etc etc) you are looking at a 2k baseline.

so that would put his total car worth and money spent at 16k-19k.

because the car market is so flogged out you can pick up 02-03 Sti's in the low and even sub 20k mark. I've seen several 02 sti's with above mods, plus coils wheels stereo etc etc. Pissing in 220kw's atw all day everyday. Conversely if you want something of similar age to 06. You can get 03-05 sti's for the 22k-25k range (some even sub 20k like mine ). You just get so much more from an Sti, and unless your buying relatively new the price difference isn't all that much.

I should mention i have absolutely no problem with any one buying whatever car they want and doing whatever the hell they want to it. It is your car and it is your choice what to do with it. I'm just saying if it were my money and they were my goals, that is what i would do and why.

Whatever your choice mate, i hope it makes you happy.

Umm if they can afford a WRX and drop 10k in performance mods, they can afford an STI...
