No, an EJ20k is not a EJ207, goes something like this...

EJ20G: Liberty 89-93, WRX 92-98
EJ20K: Impreza WRX & STi 9/96~9/98
EJ20H: Liberty TwinTurbo 94-96
EJ20R: Liberty TwinTurbo 97-98
EJ205: WRX 99-
EJ206: Liberty TwinTurbo Auto 99-03
EJ207: WRX STI 01-

V3 Sti should have Forgies, better cams/Under bucket shims, but I don't think they were closed deck blocks...

What turbo does it have? if they used the V3 turbo, it should be a VF23

V1 & V2 STI & STI RA only (not WRX type RA) are closed deck.

V7 STI onwards is Semi closed 207 (until 06 where they go 2.5L).

Everything else is open deck.

edit- USDM 2.2L Liberty Turbo & the 22B also had closed deck 2.2L block

With the V1 and V2 info, its not always correct unfortunately...I think that back at the factory in Jap land, if they ran out of closed deck blocks they would throw in a open deck...bit of luck of the draw! Even one of my V2 STi front cuts had an open deck in it...

VF24 came out on the MY98 V4 STI, sounds like that's what you may have or they have done a turbo swap.
