Out of curiosity..
Who did your tune?
Im about to have mine tuned in the next few days...just wondering...pm is ok...
And the noises I mentioned are they normal?
Sorry for the dumb questions too late to ring them (tuner) now and ask... Will contact them in the morning, just wanted to pick some brains in the mean time.
Stock boost controller should be able to easily handle 20 psi and even more.
And the noise does not sound "normal".
I think you need to talk to the workshop...
G'day all,

Had a TBE and tune done today on my 2010 STI and whilst on the dyno it refused to make more than 16psi.

Anyone else had a similar issue with their car not making boost. Tuner believes the stock boost controller is the cause of low boost and I will need to upgrade to a mac/grimmspeed to rectify.

Also on the way home I noticed a hissing noise with a metallic tappetytaptap when the car turbo comes on boost. Is this noise normal when going to a TBE? Waste gate flutter?

Cheers.
It could be wastegate flutter maybe. I started a thread about it here http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/mechanicals/51577-wastegate-flutter.html

Reply 16 has a video clip of the noise my car was making. I recorded it from inside tge car and strapped my phone above my pedals. You can hear it hest at about 43secs

Similar noise but mine is when boost comes in hard around 3500rpm onwards especially noticeable in 3rd and 4th gears.
I always thought they were both pretty much the same. I have a Grimmspeed.

In regards to the noise, if the exhaust is new then it may be hitting some of the rear suspension in higher revs/on WOT. Mine did this (was vibrating against one of the lower control arms) and it sounded like someone was rattling a Milo tin full of little pieces of metal. I got the boys at STechnic to fiddle with the rubbers/hangers and reposition the exhaust a tad and now it doesn't rub.
Nah the noise is from engine bay sounds like it's right in front of the firewall. Thanks for the replies gents will be speaking with tuner soon to try and rectify.

Ok so when I drove the car today the noise I hear is not so much a taping/hissing sound, but hissing with some fapfapfap interuption to the hissing, if that makes sense.
Spoke with tuner and he believes it may be a slight intercooler piping leak after re-installing during TBE swap.

Going to purchase a grimmspeed boost solenoid and get booked in for a re-tune.

Besides the usual suspects - Carmods - Tuspeed - Prospeed, does anyone know of a fast reliable supplier of the Grimmspeed BCV?

Cheers.

I have a grimmspeed 3-port bcs. I bought it for my rex but never installed it. Ill sell it to you for 2 cartons of export. Legit deal.

I have a brand new unused and still sealed 08+ model of the Grimmspeed BCS that I don't require at this point in time.
Can be yours this weekend.

PM if you are interested or require more details.

Actuator spring had the shits and gone home? If so, get a Forge Motorsport actuator. Comes with a spring kit and everything.
