TBE and tune - boost issues.
G'day all,
Had a TBE and tune done today on my 2010 STI and whilst on the dyno it refused to make more than 16psi. Anyone else had a similar issue with their car not making boost. Tuner believes the stock boost controller is the cause of low boost and I will need to upgrade to a mac/grimmspeed to rectify. Also on the way home I noticed a hissing noise with a metallic tappetytaptap when the car turbo comes on boost. Is this noise normal when going to a TBE? Waste gate flutter? Cheers. |
A better boost controller should sort it out, mine (02 STi) wouldn't make more than 18psi before I upgraded the boost controller. I would recommend the Grimmspeed one.
|
yes the Grimmspeed upgrade should fix this issue
|
No way, my car used to peak 21 psi with just a TBE on a stock VF48. Should be sth wrong elsewhere
|
And the noises I mentioned are they normal?
Sorry for the dumb questions too late to ring them (tuner) now and ask... Will contact them in the morning, just wanted to pick some brains in the mean time. |
The noise could be anything. Loose bolt when dump pipe was installed ?
|
I'll talk with them in the morning, I was wondering if the noises could be related to the weak boost.
If not the grimmspeed sounds like the go. Tuner said they are a plug and play unit where the mac valve requires fittings to be adapted. Cheers. |
I always thought they were both pretty much the same. I have a Grimmspeed.
In regards to the noise, if the exhaust is new then it may be hitting some of the rear suspension in higher revs/on WOT. Mine did this (was vibrating against one of the lower control arms) and it sounded like someone was rattling a Milo tin full of little pieces of metal. I got the boys at STechnic to fiddle with the rubbers/hangers and reposition the exhaust a tad and now it doesn't rub. |

Just out of curiosity, who did your tune? Does it still make the noise? |
Who me?
ASG did my tune. The noise mentioned above wasn't connected with the tune. It was the exhaust vibrating against the left rear lower control arm (ie. the exhaust moving at high RPM) |
