Default AC issue

Hey guys,

Tried searching this but no luck. My Aircon is making a hissing noise and certainly isn't cold, when I got it serviced they did mention the hoses were a bit crunchy but should be fine til next service. More worried there is a problem with the compressor - ideas?

Thanks

All I can say is it can be a costly fix. Had mine fixed needed new tx valve replace heater exchange a few hoses (this is a dash out job), in saying that though my aircon has worked flawlessly the last 2 years. No regassing every year and cold as.

Expecting it to be expensive, might just have to deal with dark tint and no Aircon til I go back full time I guess. It sounds similar to wind that whistles slightly under a gap in a door. Definitely sounds like a leak of some sort somewhere

I recently replaced my AC compressor and was expecting some ridiculous cost, but there is a company in QLD that has new units out of Japan for ~$800 odd (for GC8). I'll see if u can find the place and post it up

Hissing originating from inside the cabin can be caused by low refrigerant levels. The compressor may be fine, in which case the balance between liquid and gas phases isn't right.

With low refrigerant, gas instead of liquid enters the evaporator, making noise with little cooling action. The quickest and easiest thing to do first would be to get someone to throw a set of gauges on your system to check pressures. If they are low then you need to find then fix the leak/s and regas. If there is an improper balance between high and low sides then it's probably the TX valve or a blockage somewhere. If those are ok then there's likely to be something up with your compressor.

If you can make it up to Kalamunda on Sat then pm me so I can arrange to check it out for you then.

Thanks a heap guys! I am just hoping it needs a re-gas.
After my not so good day today (medical bills vs part time pay vs health) unfortunately the car is going to have to wait.
Cheers for the offer Kimba, kalamunda is a little far for me and I'm pretty sure I'm working the Council elections this weekend :/
