Default coilover setup

im sure this question gets asked numerous amounts of time!!!

can someone please help me, i am driving around with STD street and track coilovers (the ones that are mainly street built ones) that are blue with a yellow spring

im feeling the bumps quick badly in the car (sometimes car might bounce a bit after i have gone over a dimple in the road, etc)

can someone please tell me what their settings are for damper (how many clicks from soft/hard) and preload (what line it is on the coilover or the amount in mm) for the front and rear

i appreciate everyones advice, i know they are new so they are just wearing in but sometimes its uncomfortable!

Josh

I went for 2 clicks from softest for both front and back at the start and then gradually moved to 6/7

Correct me if im wrong, but Im pretty sure the damping knob on top adjusts the rebound. More damping, the slower the coilover returns to full stroke. You will have to adjust the spring rate to get it softer. If you slow the coilovers right down you will find it wont feel as solid over ruff stuff.

I have my set to 6 for normal driving because when it is set to really soft the car tends to bounce.

^ This. In my opinion anything Lower than 5 & you may as well go back to Factory... Got mine currently set at 7. For Track Days or when i feel like enjoying the Road, i'll tend to set it at 9-12 for f+r.

thanks guys! does anyone know what they roughly run as the spring preload? mines 10mm preload at the moment

@tony, how you talk about spring rate and lowering it, you mean the actual spring? im running 8/6k

Yeh. It should he printed in the spring how many pound it is. But If you get new springs with a lower weight you have to make sure they have equal or more stroke of the shock otherwise it will bind up. TBH the coilovers are sold specific for your car so you should he able to tune the roughness out using the damping as the spring should be the correct weight.

My Std is 8kgmm allround.

I set my preload by setting height, then tighten the spring until reasonably hard to rotate.

I think people tend to underlook tyre presure, when pressure is too high, it produces high damping force. I set mine 2psi higher than oem recommended, set damping to 4. Ride and handles pretty good.
