Default Injectors

Hey guys,

Just wandering is there any potential damage caused to the engine if you have injectors leaking fuel. I suspect my friends wrx he had bought may be leaking fuel. Some reason are fuel dripped to the floor and strong odur of fuel from the engine bay.
What are the signs and if so where can you buy injector seals

thanks

If you smell fuel from the engine bay & a leak is noticed. That's a clear sign to get it looked at ASAP & best not to drive it!

Otherwise this is the sort of damage that can potentially happen.

What year model WRX?

It could just as easily be a perished hose that has split & or a hose clamp that has come lose.

Maybe wait until the car has cooled down, or is already cold enough to touch the exhaust. Have a good look around under the engine bay for signs of leaking. Generally older engines, covered in years of oil & road grime, will show a clean spot where the leak is / around where it is.

Have a look around the injector area, follow all the lines that run from the injector fuel rail & check for perished hose & or loose clamps. Go all the way back to the fuel filter on the passenger side firewall (if its just a standard car)

If all else fails & you still can't see anything obvious, possibly have a think about priming the fuel system, by turning the key to the Acc position (do not try to crank the car over), whilst someone has a look under the bonnet.

Failing that call a workshop or if you a scared to drive it a mobile mechanic.

If you have got a leak related to any of the fuel system ageing I wouldn't just replace the injector seals for example. Everything related to it should be inspected and changed , all the fuel lines , rubber hoses, fuel pump , strainer, filter , injector seals , orings and also the carbon canister rubber lines as these usually perish around the same time. Never skimp on fuel system or brakes.
