Default Brakes screeching in reverse?

Hi all,

Just recently I had the rotors replaced on my 99 WRX, as I was told the brakes were fitted incorrectly and it had worn the rotors and damaged them.

Now initially after having the rotors replaced, things were awesome, there was no noise or anything (originally it would screech when reversing). However after about 2-3 weeks, the noise has now come back.

As you can imagine, it's pretty embarrassing when I go to reverse in a parting lot, and it's a loud screeching sound to everyone around!

Any ideas what can cause this at all? Is there something the mechanic missed?

Screeching and squealing from (normal street) brakes is usually something causing the pads to vibrate in the carrier creating the noise. Most commonly this is runout in the rotors, but that would seem unlikely in your case with new rotors. Might be worth pulling the rotors off and wirebrushing the hubs/mounting face to ensure they are sitting flush, and applying a little copper grease to the backs of the pads and the ends of the pads where they sit in the carrier.

Try getting a friend to reverse the at down your street/driveway to replicate the noise.

See if you can pinpoint which wheels makes the noise.

Because your original brakes were installed incorrectly it could of damaged your hub.

If this is the case it will most likely be from one side (unless of course it's really too far and they're both farked)...
