Directly back to the sump using one of these.

I like the return system - simplicity at it's best :)

I might just make myself one!

dazdavies 10-04-2015 06:21 PM

Make me one while you're at it :) lol

Some more options and info here for the uneducated like me. Thank you Rossco!

dazdavies - how was that RCM can plumbed? Is the large port at the top the breather/filter to atmosphere? Is the small port to the right of the can the vacuum return to the inlet?
Looks like a well made unit.

dazdavies 11-04-2015 07:32 PM

You don't return anything to the inlet. You vent it all to atmosphere.

nick73 11-04-2015 08:04 PM

Would you run the pcv to the can? I thought the pcv needed the vacuum to work correctly?

dazdavies 12-04-2015 12:01 PM

No, I've always blocked it off. The Cosworth manifold inlet manifold I have doesn't even allow me to use the PCV even if I wanted to.

The EJ257 has two block breathers one of which you block off. So you run the block breather and each one of the head breathers to the three ports at the top of the can(one for each breather)

The large port at the top is the vent to atmosphere so you have a hose on this long enough to reach the middle of the underneath of the car.

The bottom port you see on the RCM can is the return to Sump. This connects to the sump via a -10 fitting instead of the sump plug.

I have a hyperflow 4 port catch can with internal oil/air separator

The red lines go to intake and pcv
Blue are the smaller/baffled head breathers
Grey is crank breather
And green the avcs heads and crack pressure equalizer lines

^^I've noticed a tiny bit of oil residue on the plastic fitting that tees into the turbo inlet from the head/block breather piping. I'm guessing that's where I am losing a bit of oil at the track, pcv pipe work is bone dry. No oil consumption from street driving that I can tell.

Could you see any reason that the drain back to sump system wouldn't work if the pcv and it's vacuum return line were also utilized in the catch can arrangement? Would like to run it that way for the obvious legal reasons if possible.

Cheers.

Yeah I love the hyperflow four port design, pity they don't make them anymore, they even have a proper drain port fitting welded on to them.

This is more or less how I would like to plumb it but also run the drain back to sump if it works.

Cheers mate.
