Default Brembo Caliper Piston Seal Question

Hi.
In the middle of changing rotors and pads and found the outer seal around the piston starting to crack. Is this actually a seal or a dust boot and still ok to drive I till I get some replacements ??

It is a seal of sorts, it doesn't seal brake fluid, but it does seal the piston surface from water and dirt to stop corrosion, as the piston surface runs on the proper seal. short term it would be ok, but should be sorted asap, need to rebuild the caliper unfortunately as you have to remove the piston to replace the seal

Thanks for the info. I am doing the McRae sprint on Thursday so should be ok for that then. Is it easy enough to reseal your self or not so if first time doing. Although I guess there is always a first time for everything. I guess YouTube is the place to look.

Resealing is not that hard. The tricky part is getting the pistons out. I used compressed air into the bleeder hole and used blocks of wood to manage which piston came out as you want to get all of teh pistons mostly out but still sealing. I then used a small screw driver to get the old seals out.

Yep cheers Danny.

I did find a few videos and a couple of threads about this and it looks ok and pretty straight forward to do and I have a compressor to help get the pistons out. It looks a bit messy with all the fluid inside the calipers though and getting all that out, although nothing is ever as straight forward as it looks. I have found that out a number of times in the past with other jobs on the car.
