Default EJ207 into GC8

Hey guys,

I've got a cracked headgasket in my gc8 and prices seem too ridiculous to bother fixing it ($6k), so I'm planning on swapping the engine over with an EJ207.

Does anyone know what the deal is with AVCS ej207s swapping into gc8's? Problem? What's involved?

Thanks!

$6k for a HG? Who quoted that?

It's not worth more than $1500

EJ207 will work fine as long as you use your existing heads and intake manifold

subaru dealer. $8k with a new bottom end.
A Brisbane Subaru mechanic quoted $3k not including any head work. Seems it's just super expensive!

If I can find a non avcs model (99-02 sti), it should be a straight swap without needing to reuse old heads and manifold?

if your essentially fixing head gaskets anyway, why bother fitting the 207 bottom end? Seems like a lot of work unless you are going to hot it up at the same time?

I'm wanting to remove current EJ205, and insert whole EJ207. Complete engine swap for cost reasons. Dealership just offered the bottom end as an option as my engines done 210k kms now.
