Default cold start issue

my 94 wrx with a haltech piggyback ecu has reccently developed a cold start problem, first start at antime of day take a bit of effort and when up and running runs quite rich till warmed up, after the first start for the rest of the day even after a few hrs will fire up first hit. leave it over night and back to square one.

does anyone know why/how it would develop this problem and the the easiest way of fixing it?

thanks

kayne

Fuel at cold should be rich..

Mine dips down to about 10ish at startup.. once warm it hovers at 11.0 - 11.5

Question is how rich is it getting at startup?

Might need to add a few more points richer to get it to startup.

Hi Kayne
Does it run slightly rough, kinda raw fuel smell and stutter a bit?
It did this a couple of times after i had the haltech fitted but only when VERY cold. When i spoke to the tuner about it was told that it wasnt a problem. It could be better sorted out with some more time on the dyno, but wasnt a detrimental factor to the motor or components. Therefore i didnt pay more to get it done.

The problem with aftermarket ecu/piggyback ecu is that its 'almost' impossible to get a completely good cold start tune.....like you would have on a stock car.
Reason.........
because a tuner will spend 3 hours doing a complete map...and a car companies engineers will spend a yr developing the maps for just your cold start!

Hows the car going anyways?

hi matt,

yeah thats it too a T.
im not too worried about getting it fixed asap as i only get to drive it one week out of 3.

car is going really well, the stereo is all done and pumping along nicely, some new slotteds up front and greenstuff pads. the guys at speeworks say she's in great condition. so everything is good but looking at upgrading due to the more coin im making now.
