Default Cams in gc8

Is it possible to replace the cams in a gc8 without removing the engine? There are some threads around about changing head gaskets without removing the engine so I'd imagine you could get the cams in and out, or am I missing something?

pulling the engine isnt really such a big deal. your average backyard mechanic could have it out in an arvo. borrow a crane off a mate and get stuck in.

yeah I know about the shims, just wasn't sure about how much of a prick it would be because I haven't done cams on a subaru before.

The inlet cams would be ok to get to but the Exhaust side - forget about it!

Change the spark plugs first. That'll answer your question

Thnaks Daz, done plugs heaps of time, just no cams, and no access to a engine crane.

Also if I pull the engine I might get stupid ideas about doing other work whilst it's out

My point being, if you've done the plugs you'll realise there's barely enough room to do that never mind anything else.

It's an engine out job I'm afraid buddy.
