We have a ute at work with a worn thrust bearing. Makes a clicking/knocking sound which doesn't sound healthy and is only when idling. It's like a $60 part however, labour will be the killer here. Would be a good time to upgrade the clutch if you haven't already.

I've been told by a mechanic that it might be the spinning cog in the gearbox
That engages with the clutch has spat a tooth or two.And was told that I should not use a heavy duty clutch as the clutch is the breaker saves the box

He's right about the second part.
Use standard clutch with 5 speed gearboxes.

Mechanic has got the gearbox out and says the box needs to be stripped and may start to cost to much and I may need to get a second hand one from the wreckers. Would it easier to maybe go a STI 6 speed.
Any suggestions would helpful.
Cheers.
