Power Comparison
Hi Everyone,
So I've had the 06 WRX for a few years now and only drive it on long drives out to the country (not my daily). Lately I feel that it's not as powerful as it use to be, it just feels like it doesn't pull as hard as it use to. In the past month I've been reading about the ringlands issue for the EJ25. The car has the following mods: TBE, vf34 turbo, bigger fuel pump and a Verso tune. It also has about 101,000km on the clock and I service it regularly. Now from what I've read, opening the throttle up in the highest gear(5th) is one of the causes of this issue. Unknown to me before reading this, that what I've been doing when on those long drives. To try and rule out the ringlands issue I was thinking getting a compression test done or getting it back on the dyno at ASG for a power run and compare the results with the original tune results. Any advice from you guys is greatly appreciated. |

Unless there is something wrong with the tune a power run won't reveal much.
My engine still made almost full power just recently on a power run and is only running on three and a half cylinders...

A comp test and leak down test could indicate an issue with a particular cylinder. The individual cylinder results them selves dont mean a great deal. And can even read below accepable depending on teat conditions. What is important is uniformity across all cylinders. If one is down on the other 3, you may have issues.

One thing you don't do with the 2.5L is put load on them in a high gear, low revs. You have a shifter for a reason...

^^ I know this now, but didn't before. This is also the first Subaru I've owned and the other cars I've owned don't seem to have this issue.

That can be said of any 4cyl engine.

What makes you think the motor is on it's way out apart from it not feeling as quick? That's a very vague description. Mine was missing a piece of the piston crown and it still pulled like crazy so I wouldn't base your assumption off that alone.
Oil consumption is pretty much the best indicator regarding damaged pistons without digging deeper. Mine was using oil, more than I was comfortable with however, no smoke from oil cap, no loss in power.....just oil. A compression test needs to be accompanied with a leak down test as recommended above. A compression test alone can be vague. Any competent shop can handle the test. Good luck and look forward to your results. |

Is it possible you're just used to the power?
I read posts where people get bored of 350hp... |

Ok, so I'll get the compression test and a leak down test done. If it's all good then maybe as matto20v said I'm just too use to the power.
Thanks for the advice guys. |
