Radiators.
Good day gentlemens and womens
As we all know a gaurd rail jumped out of nowhere and hit my car... enough been said. Part of the rebuild now is needing a new radiator. Now ill be honest and say I had no idea what was in there before. Its a 98 WRX motor, and when the car was originally converted it had a turbo rad support put in it. So its fair to say that it had a turbo ej radiator of some sort. Now, I need someone with Subaru knowledge to tell what I can use. Are later model radiators different? Will a early model radiator suffice. Will a N/A radiator work? The other issue is the replacement front is a N/A one, so the rad support is only to suit n/a , but we will get around that with a large hammer and or grinder. Thankyou in advance. tj

AFAIK...
You can use a NA Lib one but you need some kind of modification to the outlets to accomodate the header tank as NA Subarus dont have a header tank. Better to use a Turbo one and modify the supports as the end tanks have all the connections there to link up with a header tank. There are a few cheap second hand Subaru radiators going on ebay at the moment. On of them is at $50 currently. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SUBARU-WRX-RX...QQcmdZViewItem It is however an NA rad. From what, I have seen, NA rad seem to go for significantly cheaper than that of turbo rads. In the end, it may be cheaper to buy an NA rad and then mod it to fit. On another note... Why arnt you posting this question up on RSLC?... Surley there far more specific RS Lib Knowledge and resources there. Good luck with the repairs |

The N/A ones and the Turbo ones are different as the Turbo ones dont have the filler cap on them, when mine shat itself I bought a very good condition one from Swan in Kenwick I think forester gt ones are the same as wrx ones "I think". Also the fans mount differently.

The RS rad is the same size as a GC8 Turbo Radiator so go to Japanese Wholesale and buy a genuine aluminium MY95-00 Radiator. As far and front end parts speak to seagull from RSLC he's in WA and has alot of parts at good prices and can get more in if required.

Japanese Wholesale Spares did not do me well at all. Bunch of c%*ts actually.
Bought a second hand radiator off them and the bloody thing leaked in the exact same spot on the end tank as my original one. Do you think I could get my money back even after I rang them two days later ? (My original had to be repaired in a hurry after all that) I know its a risk buying second hand parts, but for a measly $200 you think they could show some goodwill. If anyone from JWS is here on these forums please contact me. RANT OFF Jamie. |
