Gc8 brake problems
Guys I have issues with the brakes on my GC8 , I noticed last week that on one rear wheel my brake pads were down to metal!,I installed new pads and rotors on the rears .
Turns out the piston was getting stuck ,had the rear calipers overhauled at a local brake place , then I installed them yesterday . yesterday and today I tried to bleed up the brakes but they are just not right ,have to pump the brakes 2 -3 times for a decent stop . Plus I now see ,that same caliper is sticking again!!??, Im baffled as to whats going on ,I might have to try get the car to the local brake place because Ive never had, this issue on any car in my life so unsure what the problem is Last edited by django; 19-04-2018 at 08:21 PM. |

What order did you bleed them? The sequence isn't like typical cars, the order is a bit off.

If the caliper is still sticking, what exactly did the brake company do? Whole caliper refurbishment or just seal replacement? If it's a floating caliper what's the condition of the pins (surface pitting?) and dust seals (split, brittle with age)

I was told the rubber hose might be internally collapsed ,Its definitely sticking because after a short drive about ,that side rotor was scorching hot but I could put my hand on the other side and was just warm .when reversing it squeeks loud from the back end too |

What's the condition of the handbrake? Does the disc have free rotation if the caliper is off?

It cant be handbrake issues ,because one side at the rear ,wore the pads down to metal and the other rear side still had half the meat left .It has to be an issue with the Caliper not fully retracting .for some reason? |

its something I would check to rule out as occasionally 2 issues can exist (at the most an inspection/clean of the handbrake assembly would not hurt) if the brake line is still original and collapsing then change the whole lot and if it was me I'd go braided, I'm sure somebody like STECHNIC could help as they will have preferred suppliers due to their Motorsport experience.

Tried for hours again today to sort it out ...the handbrake is not holding on ,I pushed the piston back in with a G clamp and it was very easy to push it in .Last week before the calipers got overhauled it was a STRUGGLE to push the piston back in .
I removed the banjo fitting off the caliper and pushed the pedal ,the fluid came flying out no resistance at all . Put it all back together ,bled it up again and on that same problem wheel ,the brake fluid struggled to come out the bleeder!???. Eventually it did ,all other wheels bled fine . Bear in mind that caliper and the other rear have just been overhauled and the bleeder nipples are brand new so im even more puzzled than before . |

Sounds like the earlier suggestion of the hose might be right.

I cant even get them to bleed up right??...just had yet another go ,im on my 3rd 500ml bottle now ( over the last few days) ive tried and tried using a quarter full 500ml bottle with clear tube going to the bleeder nipple .Its defo bleeding the air out then tighten back up but you have to pump the brake a few times for a decent stop??????. driving me mad
Ill change the hose when I manage to source one locally, never had any car that wouldn't bleed up properly before |
