Hi guys,

Had a wierd occourence tonight. My driveway goes straight in, through a gate and then swings a right and down a hill into the garage. The car is an 06 STI.

As i was turning right (almost full lock) to go down the hill, the car seemed to wanna stop still, its like someone had pulled the handbrake up as it was turning. I stopped and backed it out again.The same story reversing back up, as it was turning, it seems like the car didnt wanna move. In the end as i straightened the steering up a bit it went. It feels like way like more than tyre/tarmac friction stopping the car.

Obviously the handbrake was off lol. Had a look under the car, all seemed intact nothing broken or come apart, all the steering seemed ok. Nothing stuck anywhere (branches, etc). Seemed all fine on the drive home as well, it was only a short trip (about 6km). No scratches or evidence of anything touching or scraping.

Any ideas? Soz for the long description.

Had it on 'lock' at the time, 50/50.. Could auto have a significant effect?

At Full Lock... maybe some tyre scrubbing?... Have you modified the suspension?

Possibly, Brake calipers not letting go of the disks properly

Bog stock, only 1300km on the clock... Brakes have been squeaking a touch the past day or two, only some dust in there thought, nothing major.

This will happen when you lock your centre diff (it may happen to a lesser degree as you wind the lock off) because of the diff binding. Remember that when you lock the centre diff, it is trying to keep the front and rear wheels going at the same pace. So when you are turning, your front wheels travel a shorter distance then your rear wheels, therefore causing the centre diff to bind up. You should not have the diff in "lock" position on tarmac anyway, it puts a lot of stress on the centre. Lock is really designed for gravel and loose surfaces.
