Default New Motor 11 WRX

Hey guys, long story but my piston rings are leaking a lot of oil. The great guys at Stechnic say a new short motor may have to be the solution, but with a price tag of over $7 grand I am rethinking options. Current engine has about 190,000km on it.
Any ideas? I would like to keep the car but at its age and milage, is there a cheaper solution?

Cheers

Out of the question. I have no mechanical expertise at all.

Options are
a) Rebuild it and drive it knowing it's all good for another few years
b)Buy a secondhand motor and run the risk of being in the same place again
c) Trade it in and leave it to the dealer and next owner to worry about

You'll be surprised at how much of the labour cost is involved in just pulling and refitting the motor, so the price difference won't be as huge as you'd think by the time you buy a decent secondhand motor.

Start a 'go fund me page' apparently they are the shiz. Otherwise do what the rest of us do and get a loan from the bank or stick it on your mortgage. Or hit the streets and start hooring yourself.

If you intend on keeping the car long term get a new oem short block installed and enjoys. Rebuilding & machining your old engine will be more expensive.

$7K to replace a 190,000km engine is pretty good...go for it.

What exactly is your budget? Be honest. Is it as "little as possible" or have you got some savings/pocket money to play with?

As little as possible. I can get a second hand BMW 320i for this price.
