Default OBD2 Scanner not working?..HELP!

hi Guys I have a 2000 GC8 and today I bought a Foxwell NT204 scantool but its not working , if you plug it in ,turn to acc ,the unit powers up but keeps saying it cant communicate with the computer?.

Its standard ECU onboard ,I tried numerous times but it just refuses?, Oddly the plug on the reader has 16 pins but when I look at ,my OBD2 port ,it has 16 holes but only 7 seem to have the metal contacts?, WTF?

2000 GC8 doesn't use OBD2. It's the same/similar physical plug, but with a different protocol so OBD2 readers won't communicate with it. I believe the protocol it runs is SSM (Subaru Select Monitor).

I have posted this here somewhere before, but you need a VAGCOM cable (on Ebay for $15 or less now) and ECU Explorer which is free online. Fire up ECU Explorer and enable SSM (Subaru Select Mode) and BOOM! She'll read codes, real time data, etc.

(This is for 99/00 GC8 with standard factory ECU)
