Default GFB Pulley Kit - Tech opinions please

Hey guys, in need of more opinions again!! Just bought a GFB Powerup Pulley Kit for my MY99, just wanna get opinions before I decide whether to fit it or not... As the crank pulley supplied is smaller than the original unit, you are doing away with the harmonic balancer, this kinda worries me, Subaru built the car with a harmonic balancer for a reason right!?

I want to get feedback from those who have this sorta thing fitted and what sort of perfomance/life they have got out of it, and if its affected timing etc.
Stace, u may be the man here, your tech knowledge always seems to be helpful.

Cheers
Josh

i've got a pulley kit fitted, not GFB tho, xspeed ones, it is lighter weight compare to the orignal one when i pick them up. i never had any problems with them since i had them installed 3 years ago. but i dun feel any difference in term of power/performance.

i'd be running the standard pulleys and belts,

if you want to to save weight on rotating mass, go a titanium lightened flywheel.

the whole purpose of the harmonic balancer is to reduce the amount of deflection in the crank under firing, without it you run the risk of reducing the life of the front crank and main bearings which can only be replaced under a complete strip down of the engine, the cost of which is realistically more then the engine is worth to replace.

GOING THRU THIS PROCESS AS WE SPEAK!! Crank is farked because pulley came loose after 200000km service, went and had retightened, came loose again, i retightened it, but this time too late.

for a 200,000 km motor, your lucky to have gotten it that far

rare for a turbo motor to last as long, especially considering they punch around 14+psi for most of its life

9/10 bearing failure is due to pinging, the other 1/10 is pure negligence in not filling up the oil often enough (too much boost and oil starvation)

Just wondering.... did you get your timing belt done on this 200,000km service aswell??

My Woodruff key snapped when my pullys let go bout 2 months back. I got it fixed at subaru ozzy park but cost me $1230 to fix.

When i went to AJ @ speedworks, he reckons that i should never of had to pay for it, as 99% of the time, the woodruff key snaps off or pullys fuck up when someone hasnt torqued up the bolts enough when doing this kinda service.
