Personally, unless you are doing a lot of motorsport, I wouldn't bother with a waterspray around town. Heat soak overcomes the benefits when you stop at the traffic lights pretty quickly. You can't use it at the drags either.....if they spot water dropping from your engine onto the track you are condemed to the pits for the rest of the evening..... |

I could be wrong here, but isn't the idea of I/C spray to overcome heat soak? Therefore it would be useful in summer / traffic.
Seen couple of guys using at drags, just don't soak the I/C. Give some shots when staging to reduce heat.

nice big block of ice works well for 10 mins too
though it will bend fins on the stock cooler |

no amount of water (at least not the amount put out by a waterspray) on the fins is going to cool a frickin hot intercooler that's soaked up the under bonnet heat on a summers day.....
they're only effective when you have air flow through the cooler as well....ie forward movement. For stop start driving.....forget it. |

I'm pretty sure my wrx generates forward motion when I step off the clutch, and the big scoopy thing on my bonnet directs air over my TMIC.
This combined with I/C spray reduces (not eliminates) heat soak in the TMIC making it a little more effective. Admittedly this is prob the last mod I'd do (actually it is the last mod I've done) to my car but data logging indicates it does work. But you're right Wilmo, mid summer stuck in traffic, heat will soak in. But once you get some speed up give it a few shots with some air flow it will cool pretty quickly.

With the install, it would be best if you know someone with some electrical knowledge to help wire it. Better with a hobbs pressure switch to turn it on and a push button for a quick spray.
From dyno days that I've been to having an intercooler water spray is worth an extra 5kW at the wheels. I mainly only turned it on when doing motorsport. |
