Default AWD/Engine conv questions

Hey guys my girlfriend just bought [Subigrl] and we are looking at doing the 2l turbo/AWD conversion.

Shes only just about to get on her P's so I don't want to do the turbo conversion for her yet but would like to go ahead with the AWD and WRX brakes conversion.

The car has the 1.6L engine so my question is does the 2L turbo gearbox fit upto the 1.6L? That way I Can just drop the 2Lturbo motor in whens shes off her P's and not have to worry about redoing the gearbox and stuff.

I'll be doing the conversion myself so if anyone on here has done it themself (asin not taken it to a workshop) it would be great to hear about how it went.

Cheers.

i thought the 2L gearbox was different to the 1.6L??? dun think it will match up. I have a 2L RX and i was told that if i wanted to drop the 2L turbo engine in, that i wud have to change the gear box as well

It will bolt up to the 1.6L engine fine but it wont work because the clutch I beleive on NA Subarus of that era are a push type clutch where as the turbo gearboxes are a pull type. youll need to get a converter or a new clutch to suit.

It can be done with a bit of fiddling around though. RS Lib owners often do this conversion from GX FWD to RS AWD with the turbo engine.

Thanks for the help, I know someone doing the liberty conversion atm so I'll keep and eye on how his conversion goes.

I'd prefer to do it all in on e go but I really dont want to give her a 2l turbo for her first car haha, not to mention she couldnt afford the insurance.

And I want to do the AWD conversion soon as I'm driving the car while I'm finishing my RX7.

Yes I do get funny looks driving a car with pink wipers and pink license plates that say [Subigrl] hahahaha.

Also the clutch on the 1.6 rx I THINK is a cable type, I presume the WRX is hydraulic right?

yes the clutch on a NA Subi is a cable type. You will need the hydraulics to convert to a turbo box.
