Default Fuel consumption WRX 2013

Hi guys,

Fuel tank of 98 premium fuel and at 270km the warning light is already coming up.

I obviously didn’t buy this car for its fuel economy but is this normal?

Stock standard, and have probably only given it a hit once since I fuelled up. Mainly city driving.

Fuel consumption on the head unit info is displaying the fuel consumption at 13.4 litres which doesn’t add up.

Thoughts?

Update.

Just fuelled up and only 44 litres to fill. Basically 280km 44 litres of fuel. Rough calculation about 15-16 litres per 100 km.

The head unit had been displaying a warning to fill and warning light on the dash was on.

Not sure if this is common. When the warning light was displayed on my previous car, I would have to fill within 10-15km otherwise i would run out of fuel. It did happen once .

You could try cleaning the afm but sounds like you might want to get it to a reputable tuner to assess why it's so rich as it's definitely not normal.

Thanks Nick.

I would say I’d get close to 380-400km a tank, given I did about 280km on 44 litres. I have tried googling average fuel consumption for these models but can’t seem to find much info.

Cheers subyroo. I was more referring to threads on real life fuel consumption on these models. Mine appears to be using 15-16 litres per 100km, which is definitely higher than the factory figures you attached would suggest, especially considering the fact I have been driving conservatively.

An update, I removed at AFM and gave it a clean with the mass air flow sensor cleaner. I ensured the battery was disconnected etc. I re installed and it was quite erratic to begin with. The screen was indicating 22 litres per 100km. I drove conservatively for about 20-30km. It has now settled to 12 litres. Obviously the figured on the the head unit is not going to be 100% accurate.

This is the first time since I have owned the car (a month) that it has shown a figured under 13 litres.

In your opinion does this indicate the AFM was/is faulty? Is there a chance it will settle any further down to around the where it should be around 10.5 mark, as 12 is still a little high?

When I got the car serviced last week, the mechanic did mention I will need a new battery soon. I’m not most knowledgeable when it comes to these things and probably sound a little naive but does a battery have any effect fuel consumption?

Monitor your consumption for another tank or two and see how it compares. The car may have been modded at some stage and returned to stock for resale. If you're still not happy I would take it to a reputable tuner to check afr's and whether its stock or tuned.
