Default Oil from Catch can breather ??

Did a sprint round on Sunday and on my 3rd run smoke started pissing out from under the bonnet. i had a look to find oil oll over the left side of the engine

Upon closer inspection i found it seemed have spewed out of the K&N breather filter near the catch can.

The catch can is nowhere near full and the engine lost about 300ml of oil through the breather. I didnt finish my Sprint but drove the car home and it all seems fine, hasnt blown any more oil out. Also i checked my oil before i went out to the sprint and it was just under full on the dip stick and definatly not over the F mark.

Any ideas WTF is going on here?

overly high crank case pressure?

can be caused by worn piston rings... but would usually present itself more consistently,

or a large spike in boost pressure. unusually increases the gas pressure in the cylinder. Some pressure leaks past the rings and increases crank case pressure.

Thats all I can think of for now.

Incorrectly connected can?? This may only present itself on trackwork where you are at WOT for extended periods and running positive pressure for extended periods. Wont reveal itself on the road as it is normally short bursts of positive pressure followed by vacuum.

empty the catch can, clean the engine bay if any has sprayed out.

go for a hard squirt for about 5-10min to see if it happens again. If it does go and get a "leak-down" test. this is designed to give you some indication of how much pressure will leak past the rings and/or pistons.

this happened with my original motor, turned out two pistons were shot.

Also, idle the car and take the filter off your catch can and feel if much exhaust fumes are coming out. Some flow is normal, lots, espicially when you floor it isn't.

I thought it was when they get around 75 that you should really be worried and that 120ish was just a bit below normal
