Default my02 tbe without reflash/ecu

i know you should get a reflash or new ecu and tune to get the best out of your mods, but is it bad for your car to have a turbo back exhaust without any reflash or new ecu? im looking at purchasing a my02 and ive seen a couple with 3" tbe and maybe intake however with no reflash or new ecu.., just not sure if this will somehow damage the engine without a tune?

Hey dude,

I have a MY02, just done a full TBE system, haven't done a reflash and i've had nice gains. For the later model WRX's maybe .. but not neccessary for the MY01/02's at least.

This is what i had done:

One thing to be careful of though, is when the standard exhaust comes out, the EGT sensor gets removed, so you have to put a 2.2k ohm resistor in to stop the CEL coming on.

I've also got a K&N Panel filter on to increase the flow coming in. At the end of the day mate, the stand ECU calculates how much air to mix with your fuel, so unless you've got a full Atmo BOV on, the ECU will accomodate suitably with a full TBE on.

This makes sense, as since i've had mine on, i've definitely lost some fuel economy!!

Might do an ECU flash later on .. but it's not crying out for one at the moment. No major mods, just as i mentioned, a K&N High flow panel filter and a GFB WRX Hybrid 50/50 BOV.

Course it would .. For over $1k for an ECU you'd certainly hope so! However, you'll still see nice gains when just doing the exhaust. Just don't do a diff-back or cat-back, waste of time i reckon.

some would debate if a diff or cat back is a waste of time/money. i for one will defend and favour the diff back, mainly for the reason to opening up the 'burble' and thus, free's up options to spend on suspension (as i have done). But, at end of the day its your money etc etc... but hotting a car up is a great idea.. but not many focus on the braking, suspension to even out the 'upgrades' that have been taken place.

Opening up the burble isn't exactly a performance increase though, it's like putting a BOV on a stock standard motor.

Why 'just' open up the burble when you do the whole lot at the same time. Like NVENUF said, do it properly, do it once. .. Then go do your suspension.
