Default Oil Leak

Having put the car in the garage overnight, I realised that I've got a relatively significant oil leak coming from the left bank of cylinders when facing the front of the car. After briefly having a look today, I realised that my oil over the past week has diminished from being well in the safe limits of the dipstick; to the point where it's only just reaching the dipstick.

I'm relatively sure that it's leaking from a rocker cover gasket, as it seems to be dripping from just above the exhaust manifold; where it's dripping and burning, causing a lovely plasticcy smell to float through the cabin every now and again, occasionally puffing a bit of smoke. However, it's definately not a constant velocity boot (as it's definately not thick, black grease) - but any other ideas where it may be coming from would be appreciated; as i simply don't have time to look thoroughly.

speaking of which; have any of you guys had any oil leaks of this nature? and if so; how much were you charged to repair them, and from your individual experience(s) - where would be the most ideal place to go for this type of problem to be rectified?

cheers!

for the 3000km's i've had it, nope. i'll get it up on some ramps today; ensure all bolts are torqued correctly (might not be compressing the gasket properly, hence this problem), and i'll also have a peep at the turbo's oil lines, just to ensure everything is on accordingly.

however; it's definately coming from the vicinity of a rocker cover gasket, perhaps even a head gasket. i topped it up with some 10w40 today; so it's well within the safe limits of the dipstick. let's hope for the best, i really don't want to be coughing up labor costs for a head gasket replacement, if that's the problem

had a look at the underside of the car today whilst performing a coolant flush; it's definately coming from a rocker cover gasket.. will get a torque wrench under there tomorrow at work. might fix the problem. if not, handball off to rms

easy DIY check... degrease down and monitor it..simple

could be really lucky and might even be a plate on back of the head that is held down by 2 12mm(i think) bolts

if so..take off , degrease down and where it sits in place, put grey around, pop back in and all down

(waiting for some to to tell me im wrong or stupid)

Wait..Subaru's have rockets????

Yes rocker cover gaskets leak on Ej's and it's very common.

Replacing them isn't hard as a diy either.
