pump/flare... that sort of thing. 9.5" wide on a GD wrx is starting to get too big...

tris7an 19-02-2012 09:42 PM

So what would be a good fit if 9.5 is too wide ?? I don't mind rolling the guards and some camber but don't want to go crazy on the fenders

teejay 19-02-2012 09:46 PM

Then dont get 9.5

tris7an 19-02-2012 09:47 PM

What is a good fit though I have looked at heaps of different widths but can't really tell the difference is the width the only thing making the guards require rolling or does the offset play a part ?

ImPreSiV 19-02-2012 09:57 PM

18 x 9's with 245's will be 'flush'

That's the look you're after... but this is for another thread. PM me if you want

Of course offset plays a part. I'm guessing your standard rim is around +51/53 offset and 7" wide. A 9.5" +38 wheel means 2.5" wider (62.5mm) + 13mm to 15mm with the change of offset (53/51 - 38). End result would be a wheel that sits ~75mm further out than your standard wheel.

Basic maths.

Except that you have done it wrong. Offset is from the centre of the width.
Rim will be 2.5" wider but only half that plus offset difference towards the guard.
So (2.5*25.4)/2 + (51-38) = 44.75 mm towards the guard.

Also depending on the tire width and profile you choose, the tire height will change this may give you more or less clearance.

Search google for a tire calculator to help.

I recently installed Rota DPT 18x8.5(+38) as per the link below on OEM STi springs. http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/649521-post2221.html

I get rubbing at the rear when going around roundabout if someone is in the back or at the front if going 100kph on country road. I will need to look at guard rolling.

Gallery | WHEELDUDE.COM website with gallery has lots (and I mean lots) of photos with all different models of rims and car setups to give you an idea.
