Default Accelerating problems

Hi, I think my car might be having problems. When accelerating it struggles to rev over 4000rpm. When it reaches 4000rpm the car starts to choke/jerk, and it cant really produce more revs past 4500rpm. The most recent mod was my pod filter about 2 months ago, and I noticed this problem about a month after I had it installed. Other mods are BOV and 3" TBE, the engine is otherwise all stock. It's an my99 wrx. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx.

Sounds like boost cut.

Go to a workshop to have them diagnose it for you.

Your airflow meter is probably rooted. Take it out, spray it with circuit cleaner (or metho) and hope for the best. You will probably find your new pod filter (oiled i assume) has accelerated the demise of your afm.

Get rid of your oiled pod filter and try cleaning your AFM. If that fails you'll need to buy another AFM element which will cost you $200-300. Oiled filters contaminate the AFM and the MY99/00 model's AFM are particularly sensitive to this issue.

Had a similar issue on my 02 WRX. Issue was my stupidity. Installed a new Intercooler and didn't fasten the throttle body hose correctly. When it got into the higher RPM range .. Drove like you have mentioned, jerky .. hesitating ..no boost!

Dont even bother with oil filters, its not worth the risk especially with MY99. Think MR_PSI's selling a V5 afm, should be a straight swap?

Im using an apexi power intake...its a dry filter, so no oil.

So i guess I should start by checking my afm....hmmm....

Not to throw a spanner in the works, though if it was the AFM shouldn't it happen at low revs as well?
