Default car stutters and throws CEL

hey guys finally got off my ass and got batery charged!, car starts but it still is showing check engine light and stutters and wont go when it hits 7psi and has slight rough idle, I took the air filter off with the afm and there is bit of dust in there and on the afm sensor would this be the reason? how do you get those weird head screws out of the afm? and what can i use to clean it with?

Use contact cleaner in a spray can to clean the AFM. Spray it good and then let it dry in a dust free environment.

You can get contact cleaner spray from good electronic stores like Jaycar and Dick smiths.

Some times, after the AFM has been sitting dirty for a long period of time, the AFM hotwire can actually become damaged.

See if you can swap with some one with a known working AFM and see the problem goes away.

If it works with another AFM you will need to replace the AFM.

If the AFM is still stuffed after cleaning, disconnect the AFM plug and drive around in Limp mode. ie no more than 3000 rpm.

At least the car will not stall in traffic and you can still do short trips.
Will have a near new AFM for MY99/00 for sale from 9th Jan.
