Default help - electrical problem still!

My car had some unresolved electrical problem where turning on the indicator or reverse light causes the guages to stop working momentarily and the turbo timer to start counting down (like the ignition key is switched off and back on quickly). Other electrical load such as radio or lights do not cuase this problem.

I thought it was some faulty ground connection or a relay under the dash but all connections seems okay. The problem got progressively worse NOW THE CAR WON'T START!!

I've checked all fuses in the engine bay and under the driver's dash, all okay. When the ignition swithch (IS) is in "Accessories" the radio and horn works. The dash lights and headlights DO NOT work when IS in "On" posi. The starter motor and engine turns over when IS moved to next position but car will not start.

I'm thinking either the Laserline alarm/immobiliser or ignition switch is faulty...any suggestion on how to check. What other problem it could be? Car has Autronics ECU, can this be faulty?

ALSO, which mobile auto electrician would be recommended for Ossy park area... frustration is taking hold!!!

Cheers

i would say that it is the ignition kill on your immobiliser
Go under the dash, find the immobiliser and and bypass ignition wires. Very common problem with most immobilisers as they get a bit older. We see it all the time. Shouldnt be hard to do if you know a little bit about electronics. Sorry, i dont know of any mobile auto electricians off hand, though it sounds like a simple problem.

Take it to Leigh at RMS...he built the car and should know it inside out...oh yeah, and get rid of the turbo timer too...

Is dion / jonathons old car? Did leigh finish it off or did RT? Maybe they both had a bite at the cherry?

If you have no luck I know a very good auto electrician (that also happens to own a wrx) but he is too busy to bother going north of the river.

Cheers

Yeah it's Dion/Jon's old car...Lane may have also had a go at it.

Try Marc's Mobile Auto Electrics (Marc Wolfenden)...0419 990 224...was that who you had in mind Brendon?

Have you added a stereo recently? I kept blowing dash lights & the auto sparky said it's cause most people use the wrong lighting wire when setting them up...it's actually an earth, might be worth a look & cutting it if you have.

Thanks for the reply/referral guys!!

I found out what the problem is! It is the Laserline alarm/immobiliser that is fualty. It has burnt wires in the actual unit for some reason. Thanks to the guys at Westside Car Audio in Osborne Park for their advice on how to check for faults and get the car started so I can drive it to be repaired.

No new stereo installed (as I prefer to hear the mechanical orchestra when driving the car ) but I did wire up a T-sport shift light to Pin 8 of the Autronics ECU for rev signal. It is the wrong connection so this may have contributed to the problem but somehow I don't think so as the electrical was going funny before this.

To clarify history of the car... it was originally built by RMS so the custom pipeworks, roof vent, surge tank and first engine build was done by Leigh. Years later it spun a big end so Dave at Race Torque rebuilt the motor using a closed deck block, head studs and a "freshen-up". String of bad luck saw the gearbox blowing third gear shortly after that so back to RT to install STI 6MT. For completeness, I got the Spec C R180 plate LSD rear diff, STI rear hubs and Brembos (front and rear) fitted while they are at it.

Cheers
Jonathan

Can anyone suggest an auto electrician, south of the river? Mobile or workshop.
My driver's side window has stopped working (was working intermittently, but has completely conked out now).

Cheers,

Adrian
