Differential Oil concern
Hey guys/gals,
Just noticed when i looked under my rexxy the other morning that they rear diff had a bit of oil around it. Now im wondering, is this inevitable that it will leak oil but not at an alarming rate (no puddles or anything on the floor). Its just when i bought the car, it was clean as a wistle, now its got a bit of oil on it. Am i being to paranoid? Is there a call for concern? My 75k service is coming up and i do wonder what will be discovered . Thanks, Eric. |

I recently discovered that my rear diff was leaking too. after I cleaned up the mess, I realised MMS didnt do up my diff oil plugs tight enough when I went in for a service. I tightened up the bottom plug and topped it up a bit from the top plug and all was good.
The only possibility is the diff rear plate gasket is leaking. Which would mean you rear diff needs to come out in order to replace that. But its not a big task for a mechanic.

go to thupercheap and get one of their $1 cans of deagreaser, degrease the shit out of the diff and the area around it, then wash it off with a hose. go for a short drive (with some corners so you use the diff) and then check again to see if its got any more oil on it.. if not, sweet, check it every day for a week and see how long it takes to get covered again. if its got a whole lot of oil after the short drive, as mister two said, check the tightness on both plugs and go see a workshop
