Mr Carpenter said he would double that figure next year to $1000 if the current trend continued, where the highest cause of death in road crashes in WA was people not wearing seat belts.
o'rly? what about speeding and drink driving? seems always the statistics are built around what they want to say lately.

yer im pretty sure last week you posted something about speeding drivers and people not obeying the law to be the highest cause of road death in WA.

Like everything, its what is the focus of the week... I think the government sit around a table and find out what the "word of the week" is. This week its seat belts, next week someone will do a skid at Leach Highway Macca's and we will be back onto the hoons.

"Taxpayers run the health system that looks after people who survive (crashes) who are permanently injured . . . (and many need) intensive car for the rest of their lives.''

What about all the deaths, injuries and other crap associated with people drinking alcohol, becoming drunk and doing stupid things. This should be banned aswell, as it is more of a burden on the health system?
I do think that people who dont wear seatbelts should be fined hard though, how can you forget, i just wouldnt feel safe without it.

also $500 is ALOT of money to some people.

image if you were a single mother who's only income is from centrelink. one day you make a mistake a forget your seatbelt. where do you get the $500 from? thats food out of your and children's mouths.
There really is no excuse not to be wearing a seatbelt. It should be second nature.

their arguement is that if your on disability for the rest of your life as a result then its in everyone's interest that you dont forget.

I wouldnt forget so i couldnt care less about this law, however if it means some moron who might not have bothered continues to contrubute their crap to the gene pool, then its probably a net negative result for the human race.

Are you unaware of how much damage a flying human body can do to other people?

If you're not wearing a seat belt on the road, you're showing how little regard you have for other motorists, not just yourself.

You sir are uninformed. Let me spell it out for you.

1. Person has accident
2. Not wearing seatbelt, more injuries.
3. Taken to hospital, broken legs, brain damage (if seatbelt then nothing)
4. Injuries are paid for by 3rd party insurance on license.

Now do you have any idea how the 3rd party insurer (the Govt) pays
to have the broken legs fixed and the 3years of rehabilitation for
brain damage ? ... Well its TAX. And it can cost 10's of thousands
of $$ for some patients.

So... YOU are paying for the hospital bills for road injuries through your
tax. More injuries = bigger hospital bills = more tax.

Next paycheck look at your tax. Part of that is paying for IDIOTS who
don't wear seatbelts and clock up a big hospital bill.

You are right in saying that people should take personal responsibility,
however while tax payers are footing the bill they will still remain
enforced by the law.
