First impressions

The styling isn't a problem as far as I'm concerned, some of the details like the grille, front bumper and rear lights could be done better, but they don't really bother me, and they'll probably be fixed for MY09 if enough whingeing goes on.

The actual surfacing of the panels is nicely done, the guards flare out very subtly and the rear diffuser is also well done.. Importantly, the wheels sit nicely in their guards...

Engine has a lot of low - midrange. Didn't really get into the upper reaches but it's redlined at 6500 as opposed to 7000. I've never even been in a 2.5 WRX before so that may be just a facet of the 2.5.
Progressive acceleration with no real feeling of 'coming on boost' but it still gives you a reasonable shove in the back for a stockie..

Suspension handles bumps really well, turn in and steering at road speeds feels sharp. It seems to roll a bit more than a stock GC8 but not annoyingly so.. I would compare it to a sportier version of something like the Honda Accord Euro, which initially feels soft at slow speed, but has very nice handling at highway speeds...

Pedals are beautifully spaced, for easy heel and toeing. But the GD series also had nicely spaced pedals, so it's good that they haven't stuffed things up there..

Only a 5 speed still, but I noticed that it pulls OK from 60 kmh in 5th..

The lack of a 'typical' bonnet scoop and presence of door frames are a bit strange initially, but the car still 'feels' like a Subaru to drive..

Some minor dislikes about the dash layout as a passenger, but from the driver's seat, the wheel feels nicely sized and nice to grip, and it's easy to get comfortable in the car. Importantly, unlike a lot of new cars, there is good froward and side visibility, the pillars arent too thick and dont obstruct your forward visibility (The Current Honda Civic is a shocker in that aspect)

Bear in mind I only had a very brief drive but it seems interesting enough that I'd put it on my shopping list if I was serious about buying a car, although, like a lot of people, I would wait for the STi first...

So when you take your car to Tint A Car in Vic Park, they tint it then take it for a nice little test drive just to see that it "goes" and "handles very well".... very good!

Um.

a) The k20 in the FN2R is a 2.0L DOHC iVTEC

b) Its Aus landed so it cant be JDM. And btw, its the Euro design. Not sure the japs have them.

It is a real Civic Type R. And anyone who has driven it and the other type-r's (DC2, DC5 even the EK9) will agree that it lives up to its name.

The one you are talking about is the JDM Type-R sedan. 166KW. Bear in mind that it will come de-tuned to Australia because of our crappy petrol; safe to expect around the 150KW mark (similar to the euro hatch we have now).

And for all the VTEC bashers, it feels quicker than the stock 08 WRX. Seems to handle better and has a s**tload of features that Subaru owners would wish for. Im not trying to convert any of you to Honda fans, but to express to the motor enthusiasts that the new Civic Type-R is a superb performer and the most enjoyable drive I have ever had. Give it a go, you will be pleasantly surprised...

You had better be saying that you pick the Civics up from Burswood Honda and drive then around to be tinted because otherwise its people like you that break customers cars and cause some people here on the forums grief.

Which is it ?
As my car is due to get some tint fixed and the above sort of shit is NOT on!!!!

Starts looking up Tint A Car's number in Vic Park......

Victoria Park 33 Teddington Rd 6100
(08) 9470 2501

Ring Ring.....

Ha ha......no.
I was convinced that before going out and spending the money on a second-hand late model STi that i should at least give the CTR and the EVO 9 a taste.

I now find myself faced with a very difficult decision. Brand new cars are always satisfying and I do need something to entertain me untill the 09 STi comes out.

Cant wait to be the 'centre of attention' (read: the 'butt of VTEC- YO jokes etc') at the first cruise I bring it to Just wait till the twisties....

I think your dreaming about even keeping up with a stock WRX in the twisties.

Its torque that pulls you out of a corner. Not a flashy car that makes all the right buzzing noises and has a high redline!!!

Even the new Mini would walk over the VTEC Civic type R!!!

i only drive em 50 mtrs anyway the guys that do Pre Delivery are the one that have to wear in the ABS and brakes before anyone drives em and thats when they drive it hard. **I DONT DRIVE PRIVATE CUSTOMER CARS MORE THAN 15M** also its not worth my job to Fang or drive crazy i will get gelded for it.

As for Tinting if you need a helping hand dont hesitate to ring ill set you up with a good price.

Cheers Phil
