Garmin Nuvi 300s

It is thinner than a Tom Tom ( it is 1.5cm thick)has a bigger screen and a more advanced Star 3 Satellite navigation chip.

I can get signal from it inside my house which is double brick and concrete.

It comes pre programmed with the maps for 10 major cities in the world (london, new york, etc) as well as Australia.

It plays MP3's and you can have your own startup screens.

The main thing though is the navigation is excellent with a brilliant 3D view or a top down view with simple to read instructions.

It also has a screen that shows a Speedo with a needle and all your stats like max speed, avg speed, time, etc.

Follow the links above.

I ended up getting the 'Tom Tom One XL'. Great price, big screen, incredibly easy to use! You can pick one up for around $500.

Edit: Look on the net - There are heaps of tom tom torrents with maps, voice packages, etc.

Bakks, I agree with you. Unless you are on the road all the time, delivery driver, taxi driver, courier, sales rep, or something, I beleive they are a waste of money. Altho, some people have NO capability when it comes to reading a map (ie: my girlfriend) so she has one for that simple purpose.

Now she has no excuse... I have thort about getting one, but realised, a: i can read a map, and b: i know where im going most of the time, coz i have been there before.

I bought the mrs a Tomtom ONE (not XL) for $350ish. Its a great unit. I've tested it out and its never failed. Altho once it took me the long way from Vic Park to South Perth via Riverside drive.

I've found this as well, but you can have it remap to a shorter route by recalculating.

It may be worth upgrading to the new software also, it seems to be a bit better in the 3 days that I have been using it.
