Can't you just restore it to factory when it's sync'd? Or you could delete all the songs off the playlist BUT NOT from the iTunes folder

TJ, ive used a program called Ipod Access. Unfortunately the free version only allows you to rip 3songs at a time, but providing you dont wanna take off heaps, or are really patient, it does the job.

Once it's installed bro you will notice a little "music note" up the top in your finder bar.

You can use that to configure the app.

Once it's installed - it fires up when you run iTunes. As iTunes plays your songs, it searches Amazon.com for album art and automatically updates it for ya.

Have a look under "Preferences" and double check that this option has been enabled.

In your preferences tab go to importing/type and change to MP3 instead of AAC. Select the songs you want to convert and viola, good as done

i need help with this..

iv currently ticked all the songs that i want sync'd to my ipod. but every song in my library is getting sent thru - not just the ones i wanted. so how do i get JUST the ones iv ticked ????

Bah I refuse to use Itunes, so im no help. If you're wanting to give it a kick, i suggest a program called Anapod, it intergrates into windows explorer and is way too easy to manage your songs.
