Default The mighty UAZ hunter

I'd just like to share a driving experience I had today.

First off, our company owns several UAZ hunters, a russian made jeep thingee. Check out the website Here .

I was lucky enough to take one out into the dirt today up into the far reaches of out tenement, in the mountain ranges near Iran.

The one I drove today has done about 8000k's and I'd never struggled to keep a car in a straight line before. The car constantly fought every move I made!

Even turning a corner is is mission. you have to struggle to drive these things. The brakes are shit, the steering has about 30-50 degrees play before the wheels turn. Even the gear knob rattles (remember this how they are when they drive off the assembly line!). They don't even come with seat belts.

The engine is a funny one. 2.5 turbo diesel and it loves to rev out. It's a shame it's impossible to control the power. I actually think the grunt is the only good thing about it.

So anyone ever driven one of these beasts? Or any Russian creation like a Vula or Lada? please share your experience.

"The new model UAZ Hunter combines a classical military style with modern refinement. It is a real bend of Russian character and go-getting force and comfort and care of passengers.

Main features:

Fuel efficiency
Comfortable Interior
Upgraded suspension
New drivetrain
Seating and load carrying capacity
UAZ Hunter will take a good care of you and your passengers. It has a unique combination of the off-road capability of a military tank and comfort of a city car. Trip to the countryside will never be a mess but fun and pleasant driving experience.

UAZ Hunter is your freedom. It maintains excellent off-road capability and agreeable temper"

Sounds fun

BTW, what are you doing in Iran?

Russian cars..... he he he..

They are amazing people the Russians

Compete with USA and put people into space, make nukes, Migs, almost anything military related they are pretty good at....

But make a car? crap it just too much for them to handle. Its like they spent all their brain power on making weapons and shit and just had nothing left when it came time to make a car.

I heard somewhere that those UAZ cars can make the steepest climbs...apparently the best 4x4 in the world for that, im sure the comfort + all the rest are shit however as I've heard that car will climb anything + made out of russian tank steel so no need for seat belts

back in the days (early 90s) when i still lived in Poland, if you ever travelled to russia you could have picked up an ak47 for next to nothing...their army obviously werent getting paid enough so they sold whatever they could. Their paperwork was non-existing so nobody knew what equipment they had etc. the only problem was taking it outside russia through the border...

They make some awesome offroad trucks. The Kamaz's usually dominate the truck section of the Dakar.
