I can live with people giving their car "a bit of stick" - there aren't too many of us who haven't, but reeling it out to 180km/h is taking the piss and is stupidity on a public road. Particularly with the proliferation and number of speed cameras at the polices disposal these days.

So its risky - not stupid. The road is flat, wide, and open. Its 4am. There is no possibility of unexpected traffic entry - and if you hit the Berrigan Dr bridge doing 180, you can be back to 100 in an instant before the on ramp.
Better than doing 220 on North Lake Road at 3pm on a Sunday ... something I would never do these days. Funnily enough I was driving a perth wrx members car at the time

To think when I was young we used to go out to an unrestricted speed limit road and my grandfather used to WOT his 5l V8 and we'd go flying along for kilometre after kilometre.

Well I'm going to say it again, doing that speed in that place is fucking stupid no matter the time.
Anyone who says otherwise is just an absolute cockhead wanting to create trouble for the sake of it. There are far too many on-ramps very close to each other and far too much traffic at all hours of the day which give it far too many variables. Heck drive that way today and the freeway has been ripped up last night to put new road down. Wouldn't want to hit that at 180kmh, would you? To me this just shows the standard attitude of WA - "Do whatever I want, who gives a fuck about anyone else". If you want to cut sick, go do it outside of the CBD on a road where you will only kill yourself. We've all been there, done that. Heck I even said last time if you went a couple of exits south, it would be better than doing it there. Anyone who goes 'ah get fucked, won't do much blah blah blah', please feel free to clear your calendar and come to the specialists with me and my girlfriend on Thursday to discuss how to manage injuries one year on after a very low speed 'fender bender'. Watching the pain, suffering, costs, inconvenience all from someone not giving a shit on the road is a real eye opener. And given this was at such a low speed, I would hate to see what someone at high speed would do to another road user.

Considering i live on berrigan dr just off the freeway, im upset i didnt hear it! If he was belting down in the left hand lane at 185 and someone had just done the ol' WA merge from the on ramp to the outside lane (shoot across however many said lanes there are as quick as possible) theres every chance they could have collided with each other.
As for "noones on the freeway at 4am", what do we call the bloke doing 183km/h? A figment of our imagination? So theres every possibility that people are on there at 4am, hell im on there from 5-5:30am every day (sucks to be me ;p) I dont condem him, id be a hypocrit. I just find places alot further out and in groups of motorbikes where its signifigantly less likley to affect others and when it does, i have competant people to assist (god forbid). Just think his place and time is rather stupid.

John - there is a big difference between saying the road is or isn't safe compared to condoning doing that speed.
The slightly older Tj would suggest you don't do it there. I still maintain that stretch is as safe as anywhere you will find on perths roads to give it a squirt. Once you clear roe there is 2km before you see another onramp. Plenty of time to get on it and then back off. There are no roadworks there and there are none coming up after it and you know it so your maybes are bullshit. Your personal view is clouding the fact that a wrx is designed to do that speed and that road can handle it. Like I said I still wouldn't recommend it these days. End of the day neither of these two kids died so it says something. Actually I think the last death on that stretch of road was a motorbike rider who got squashed at low speed by a truck.

Here is some old footage of the huge Craig Lowndes Crash in 1999. Telemetry later showed he was doing 160km/h at the time. Same would happen to a road car but without a cage, helmet etc etc (this was pre-HANS days). Craig missed out on the next round with all of this safety gear.
All it takes is for a mechanical failure on a road car and the same sort of accident can occur. None of us or our cars are bullet proof..... Craig Lowndes' massive crash at Calder Park 1999 - YouTube

At 180kph you will cover 2km in 40 seconds.
Add to that the braking distance required and it isnt plenty of time. I'm sorry but it is still a foolish thing for a p-plater to be doing. Go to WAW if you want to do it.
