Default Anyone heard of the CERN project?

Basically around 20 european nations built a huge electron accelerator underground in France/Switzerland (the loop closes at 27km) in order to test particle behaviour. Amazing stuff, one worry is if they get it wrong, i'd be possible to create mini black holes and basically destroy the earth. Good read if you're wasting time at work like me

"The total energy in each beam of protons in the LHC is equivalent to a 400 tonne train (like the French TGV) travelling at 150 km/h"

Does it say that? I thought it said even if it does create microscopic black holes, they will not be big enough to draw matter into it, unlike the bigger ones after stars collapse.

Nevertheless all this technology is very very scarey. Colliding paricles into each other at 800million times a second making beams......

It's all very interesting but will it answer the fundamental question that's confused us all of late.....why the hell does the 08 WRX look like a Daewoo Lanos?

Sorry....couldn't help it...yes very interesting stuff.

True but are they going to say on the website "yes there is a risk of destroying the world" ?? It's definately interesting and but can easily cause a lot of damage
