Default RAID Configs

Hello Guys,

I know there are some IT gurus on this forum.... so i am gonna put this one out there.....

i am fairly new to the raid world.... i was wondering if i was to rebuild my OS am i able to keep all my data on the two raided drives???....

My OS is installed on a single drive so the RAID is only used to store data....

If you can keep the data can you please porvide some brief details on how this is done?

thanks

What RAID level are you running? If you are running a mirror, the 2 drives appear as a single one.

You will need to back your drive.

Okay so you have a RAID mirror with two drives? And another drive on it won with the OS installed?

Without sounding like an old stick in the mud, perhaps a WRX forum
is not the place for this question. Imagine what would happen
if I asked about a verso tune on a 05 STi on a RAID forum !

Yes yes, it is the "non-wrx" section, but it is quite technical. Do you
really want to take RAID advice from your Mechanic. Does IBM service
your WRX ?

Try HERE to get a better understanding of RAID.

Then perhaps search the google groups for answers

yer i understand foz... just there are alot of people on here that have worked in the i.t industry so they are able to help me....

yes i have a RAID 0 (2 Disks that become 1 partition)... just a stripe.... as said this just stores stuff like movies and music etc.

i have another non raided drive which has my OS.... which is ideally all i want to format i am just asking if windows will recognise a raid once plugged back up with rebuilt OS??....

thanks

hardware or software raid?
software- no,
hardware- yes, with the drivers loaded on the first boot (f6 during setup)

If its a Hardware RAID config eg Press (F4) or (Ctrl S) during the POST sequence then all the data on the RAID array will remain there as long as you dont remove or delete the the array by going back into that setup and deleting it.

After you have installed RAID drivers in Windows then you will see that single drive made of 2 physical drives apear again with all data in tact.

RAID 0 is a performance array so 1 HDD dies ALL DATA is gone.
