There is some serious steep and technical runs in Falls Creek as well as a great super pipe and other terrain parks. They also have Heli Ski options where you can get the heli over to Mt Hotham and ski there all day for $90pp (your lift passes are valid on both mountains) and they also do remote heli ski drops on virgin country for $$$. A cheaper option is Kat Skiing where they take you out back country on the snow Kats and ski doos to find virgin slopes all for much less than the heli. |

I am off to Japan on 6th January with a heap of mates to go skiing. I have only heard good thigns about the powder over there. As for NZ v Falls creek, I spose I am a little baised cause when I went to falls creek the snow was shit. Queenstown for the win and the night life is awesome.

Falls Creek is shit compared to NZ.
Have skied Mt (s)HUTT, the Queenstown (3), Mt Sheep Rooter & Treble Cone. TC rocks the lot! Whistler FTW!

Been to Japan also and can say was slightly better than NZ, worth the extra trip just to ski - no. But well worth it if you go and have a good look around, fucking amazing place!

Save your coin and time mate and go to Whistler anywhere between November and April. I was there Jan this year......best place I have ever been too, so much snow. Like 10m a yr, which shits on Oz and NZ for that matter. The longest run at Whistler is 11km and there is heaps of mountain access. Openning up a peak to peak gondola in December 08 (biggest in the world). In all honesty you woul have so much more fun over there than here or NZ. DO IT!!!

I went to Queenstown for 2 weeks in late june / july this yeah and it wasn't to bad, if i was to go again, id go in Aug prob, cause 2 of the mountains were not open for us cause they didn't get enough snowfall to build up a big enough base (TC and another one up near Wonika). was the 1st time i have been boarding so i cant really compare it to anywhere but mates i went with said they liked it more than FC, mainly cause there was a lot more variety to do on a few different mountains that are all pretty close to each other. The scenery of NZ it unreal and the night life of Queenstown is pretty sick.
Hope it helps a bit, -Trizo. |

Did Japan last year. Best snowboarding experience I have had. Driest powder I have ever come across. Terrain is not super steep but suits boards well. Cheap once you are there too. Knee to nut powder FTW!!!!
