Just make sure he buys something and still has money left over. Because things do go wrong.

Hey westoz

Take the SSS for a wrap! If it's a dud. Don't buy it...

Cheers

The thing doesnt run - its got a dead motor. It has never done an 11 - doubt its seen a track actually.

That car has had a very colourful history, and as alluded to by Mr Fozzy its one I'd put in the no basket.

May I ask why it has to be a factory turbo?

Something like a RB20DET R31 can be had for around 5k, are tons of fun, and pretty reliable. Most of them are Aussie ones converted, but its all Nissan and fits right in.

Thanx for all the replies guys... yeh I had a bad feeling about the SSS, "bottom end needs a little work" combined with claim to do 11's scares me somewhat. Also, true to my thoughts was the fact that members here would know something of the car as evidenced above, so I'll leave it.

As for my son, well, he's just looking for something with a bit of punch and is keen on a turbo after driving mine a few times - factory was my idea coz I believe it's much more preferable to have a car with it's motor designed to run turbo from the beginning, rather than getting someone's possibly dodgy home grown job. Unless you are someone like Stace & others here who are up to the task of turbo add-on and the knowledge to service it, my choice is to stick with factory, where at least a dealer workshop or manual can give answers.

Rotary is not on the menu whether NA or turbo.
VLT - no thanks.
Honda NA - possibility, as he likes 'em (anyone got a cheap type R?)
Celica GT4, early Lancer GSR, some of the early Nissan variants, even the Capri etc are high on the list.

He wants a cheap turbo charged performance car? That could end up being a money pit situation unless he's careful. What about a 300zx?

Lol yeah I know. Realised that as soon as I posted it. 300zx = money pit (potentially). Think there are shit loads of imports that have been overclocked. 1990 300zx only 90'000kms - yeah right
