Ok I'm not sure if it's the same at Skywest... (obviously not if the check-in lady allowed you to check the laptops as luggage) but at Skippers, all passengers HAVE to carry their laptops as hand luggage, even if they have to take the laptop out of the bag, and check the bag in. I would have thought it the same with all airlines, due to the laptops having battery packs etc and that it could be a dangerous goods issue in the boot. Our check-in staff check with passengers if they are carrying laptops, maybe it's our policy so we don't have issues such as this. All the best and Goodluck, but (from inside knowledge) never put laptops through as checked in luggage, baggage handlers just want to get the bags on as quick as possible
