400 ci Chev engines have a few issues with cracks and headgasket sealing. They are popular in boats where cooling them is no problem and they can be used at relatively low r/min. For automotive use they seem to favour 350 ci block with the 400 crank, thus giving 383 cubes without the sealing and bore crack issues.
