Default My Lancer problems (help?)

Hey guys,

I figure so many of you know so much about cars maybe you can help me with a problem with our Lancer.

I just had a cat back 2 1/4 exhaust fitted to the 2001 Lancer I just bought for the wife (so I can have the WRX to myself) and the thing sounds like shit. At first it was deafening and I took it back and they said they installed a resonator. I got the wife to drive it and it still sounds like shit (but softer)... I can't explain the sound but it is NOT what I was after...

help?

P.S. Just to prove my luck with cars is still shocking, the muffler place ran it into a ramp getting it on the hoist and cracked the evo front bumper. I hadn't even had the car for 24 hours.

i had a 2000 lancer before...theres not much you can do with them...and it does sound s**t...when you take off it sounds like a farting noise than a rumble...add a rampod in...the sound from that will hopefully make the farting noise not as noticeable

but i've heard so many decent sounding lancers... im pretty convinced it's not normal. 8o(

its already got a pod filter is that the same thing?

oh and this doesnt rumble at all. it's high pitched... like a ummm... gemini or something lol

the original owner did replace what i beleive is the converter (looks roughly like this thing click me) with something else but the muffler place said that wouldnt matter to the sound... does the catalytic converter contribute to the exhaust note?

yah but i dont expect it to sound rotten...

I think the catalytic converter is the problem. Just need someone to answer this:

"Can the catalytic converter contribute to the exhaust note?"
"Why would you replace a perfectly good catalytic converter?"

if the cat is hollow, read punched out, it will sound tinny and a wet fart noise

yes, a hollow cat will make the sound different to a "proper" cat
just have a knock under the car of the cat, if it sounds hollow then its been punched through
