does this mean ie were i can see a school to the left or to the right of me??

Yes to changes from 50 to 40...

There are signs on the side of the road that state school zone. If it doesn't then normal speed applies to that road.

school zones are again sign posted, so you will know when to slow down and get back upto speed, i.e. signs at the start and end of school zones.

You should be able to get around doing 50kmh, but you wont make much progress, also i believe you can cop(pardon the pun) a fine for doing anything less than 80 in a 100 zone. Also go too slow and you'll feel the wrath of some frustrated perth drivers

it can vary depending on where the school is, the speed limit can go down from as high as 70kph to 40kph.

yup, its something i had to get use to as well when i moved here, just to confuse things they only apply during school days, so weekends and school holidays dont count, not so much of an issue if you have kids... ^^

Yet....!!

Gerry, if you drive at 50km on the freeway you can be fined for obstructing traffic. You are required by law to do at least 20km below the limit, if you're car can't do that, or you choose not to, you can be fined, or asked to exit the freeway (the second one has happened to me in my step sisters 1964 ford anglia)

cops pressence on the road isn't that high in Perth, altho, when they are behind you in traffic, you watch how perfectly everyone drives!! merging and all!!

Gotta say marked cop car presence is next to non exsistant. Be wary of the undercover/detective/un marked cars. Any car with more than one aerial cannot be trusted!!!!!!!
